Reshaping It All: Chapter 12

Hi Friends! Ashleigh here.

Today we start our discussion of chapter 12 from Reshaping It All: Motivation for Physical and Spiritual Fitness. We’re also still talking about the previous chapters here — so keep those comments coming.

It’s almost 9 p.m. the night before this post is due to publish. Not only am I just now writing it, but I only finished reading the chapter a few minutes ago. I had to laugh when I realized Candace focuses on priorities in it — because it’s relevant for me on many levels.

This week is busy. I have multiple deadlines looming, kids who need help with homework, a plethora of dirty laundry, hardwood floors that need a good scrubbing, and a garden that’s half dug up. In the hecticness, I’ve been sloppy in my eating. For example, instead of taking the time to make a quinoa and spinach dish for lunch (one that I’ve been craving for days), I grabbed for the high-calorie leftover enchiladas in the fridge. My excuse? Stopping to cook would rob me of precious time needed to complete my to-do list.

The funny thing is, that as I was compiling my list of tasks, I completely forgot I needed to write this book club post. Ironic, huh? Fortunately, Darlene was much more organized that I was. Let’s hear from her.

In chapter 12, Candace addresses the importance of priorities. Why priorities? Because one: God needs to be number one in anything and everything that we do, and two: so many of us put health on the back burner due to a lack of time or it’s rank of importance.

One big obstacle you might face if you haven’t already is stress. I can’t count the number of women including myself who give up on a lifestyle change because they have stress in their life. And for them, stress demands comfort food.

But when giving up isn’t an option, we are forced to press on. That’s when we learn that it’s not only possible to get through stress without a crutch, it’s rewarding.

With that thought in mind, these are wise words to ponder:

Set priorities for your goals. A major part of successful living lies in the ability to put things first. Indeed, the reason most major goals are not achieved is that we spend our time doing second things first.” –Author Unknown

Enjoy the journey, and until next time, live well!!

OK, what about you?

  • What did you take away from this chapter?
  • How are you doing in the area of priorities?
